Yara Asmar is a multidisciplinary artist who works with music, video and… puppets. Her ability to manipulate puppets is revealing of how she perceives objects and breathes life into them. Probably for this reason, her approach to listening is also imbued with humility and abnegation, allowing her to transform the world around her into something tangible and emotional. We hear her Beirut in the wind and the sounds of people passing by in the streets, as well as the howls of nature and the religious chants — of all kinds of sounds that awaken melancholy and contemplation, and above all, a sense of connection in her. These sounds form the threads of a long tapestry of Yara Asmar’s music, one where everything is intertwined in an astonishing scenery of emotion and memories of everyday life.
