“Concrète Waves” brings together two key figures in electronic music for an encounter that is both unprecedented and unexpected. While we may be tempted to place them at opposite ends of musical history, it would be a mistake to confine Suzanne Ciani's music to the past, or to suggest that Actress's work has only recently become important. They are both essential reference points for understanding and tracing musical evolution, both in the present and over the past decades, as they continuously push boundaries and create a new grammar of ideas and sounds. We witnessed this first-hand at Semibreve a few years ago when they both performed at the festival. This time around, “Concrète Waves” provides a safe quadraphonic space in which the two musicians conjure up the abstract, nature, techno, improvisation, computers, voice and synthesizers, in a work that incorporates elements of confrontation and dialogue in ways that only few artists are capable of.
